American singer and lead singer of Journey Steve Perry has released a Christmas entitled The Season. He sings covers of Christmas classics.
The music is Jazz and Holiday. The album has a relaxing lounge vibe, potentially heard in Jazz clubs thanks to the piano heard in the background. It also feels like something one listens to when sitting by the fire, which potentially creates a romantic atmosphere. The songs have an 80s touch and have a different take on Christmas classics. The idea of making usually upbeat songs into ballads is a bold choice, such as Winter Wonderland. Auld Lang Syne is a lovely one where the choir in the background adds charm and joy. The record is suitable for listening to following a busy day of festivities (when permitted and safe to do so, and when the COVID-19 pandemic is over). The compositions are beautiful and relaxing – the rhythm is smooth.
Steve Perry’s voice is husky and bold. His vocal style parallels that of the late Nat King Cole. He sounds, soft, rhythmic and soulful- his singing style is remarkable, a lovely change to his usual Rock music style. He sings these classics with care and respect. He honours the Christmas spirit nicely.
The album The Season is available.
