Musical Discovery 2018: Jean-Michel Blais – 2 Incredible Albums!

2018 was an interesting year for music. I discovered from different countries and different musical genres.  The artist whose music captured my attention was Jean-Michel Blais.

The music for the two albums is soothing and relaxing. The composition of the two albums has excellent rhythm. The records Dans Ma Main & Eviction Sessions have songs with a sound that reminds me of the Amazon forest. The piano heard in the songs sounds beautiful. It’s like listening to a symphony, just like attending an orchestra or a musical performance at Place Des Arts.

Single Saturdays: Ragheb Alama – Redelli Kelmati

Lebanese singer Ragheb Alama has released a new single entitled Redelli Kelmati (Reply to my words)*. It’s a song about heartache following a separation.

The music sounds like some of Ragheb Alama’s older songs from the 80s and early 90s such as Assif Habibty (I’m Sorry My Love)* and Farq Kebeer (Major Difference)*. The song has a lovely composition.
Ragheb Alama’s voice is impressive. He is on key with the musical notes. His voice is soft and profound. He sings with grace and elegance.

The lyrics are touching and describe the heartache one feels when a relationship didn’t go well or is struggling. It’s poetically structured. One can hear the emotions in the words of this song.

The song Redelli Kelmati is available. Enjoy!

Single Saturdays: Heartstreets – 1 Double

Canadian duo Heartstreets has released a new single entitled 1 Double. It’s a song that talks about the doubt and anxiety people feel facing a problematic situation in everyday life. In this story, the character deals with it by drinking.

The music is fantastic in this song. It has a presence without being “in your face.” It’s a combination of R&B and Soul. Some parts sound like raindrops in an Amazon forest. It reminds me of poetry readings that take place in certain cafés. The rhythm is consistent and smooth.

The lyrics have a profound meaning. Talking about the issues of everyday life is a subject to which anyone can relate. There’s a sense of hope, however. The words have a poetic feel to them, regarding the structure and the content of the song.

This song contains some coarse language: Listener Discretion is advised.

Brigitte M – Noël Entre Amis – A Classical Christmas Album

Québecois singer Brigitte M released a Christmas album entitled Noël Entre Amis (Christmas among Friends). It’s similar to the classical Christmas music heard on the radio, but with a modern twist. She sings with incredible

The music sounds like traditional Christmas music, in most of the songs. Some tunes have a new take on an original such as the song White Christmas. This version of Bing Crosby classic song, the beat has jazz-like style. The album has a lovely and smooth rhythm. The music is soothing and relaxing.

Brigitte M’s voice is remarkable. She sings in an Opera style, with depth and grace. It was impressive how she sings White Christmas in both English and French. She performs with talented artists including John Francis Wade, Nelson Minville, and more. Their voices complement each other nicely and are in sync with the music.

Noël Entre Amis is an album I recommend for a Christmas party with family and friends.

Single Saturdays: Patrick Norman & Nathalie Lord – Sonne Ta Cloche

Québecois singer Patrick Norman with his wife Nathalie Lord has released a new version of his original song entitled Sonne Ta Cloche (Ring your bell).
It’s about the arrival of Santa Clause as well as beautiful memories of this holiday.

The music has a mix of slow and fast rhythm at the same time. It sounds romantic and nostalgic. There’s cheerful Christmassy sound to the music. I can imagine people dancing to this song, especially little children.

Patrick Norman and Nathalie Lord’s voices complement each other very nicely. Their sounds are in tune with the music of the song. It’s just as lovely as Patrick Norman’s solo version of the same melody.

The song is available. Enjoy!

Soundtrack Saturdays: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

The movie The Nutcracker and the Four Realms came out this year is a cinematic version of the classic ballet The Nutcracker. The music for the soundtrack is just as incredible as the Tchaikovsky’s original ballet. There are two songs to this soundtrack that give it a nice touch: The Nutcracker Suite by Lang Land, and Fall on Me (English version) by Andrea Bocelli and Matteo Bocelli.

Soundtrack Saturdays: La Course Des Tuques

La Course Des Tuques is a Québecois movie that came out in theatres this year. The soundtrack for the film is incredible! With the Holiday break upon us, this is an album I recommend, especially those who have seen the movie. The primary musical style of the soundtrack is pop. There are other genres as well, such as R&B and Opera.

The artists’ voices have different styles, which makes for an interesting variety. All the singers, including Alex Nevsky, Lara Fabian, Ludovic Bourgeois give amazing performances in this album. The soundtrack includes a remake of U2’s single Beautiful Day, by the group Cool Kids. Etienne Cousineau has an opera-style voice that gives the album a lovely touch. Corneille sings beautifully with Joshua Moreno with the tune Je serai là (I will be there).

This is an impressive soundtrack. It’s available now. Enjoy!

A Trailer for The Movie

Jessie J’s Christmas Album – The Christmas Day

British singer Jessie J has released a new Christmas album entitled This Christmas Day. She pays a lovely homage to classic Christmas songs with grace and style.

The music is a mix of classical Christmas music with a twist of pop, and R & B. The piano in the background is incredible to hear. It sounds like an entire orchestra is playing in the background. The rhythm is flawless in this Christmas record. This Christmas Day is an album that I recommend for anyone who’s hosting a party for the holiday season.

Jessie J’s voice is phenomenal in this Christmas album. She sings in key with the music of this album. When she performs with Boys II Men (Winter Wonderland) and Babyface (This Christmas Day), their voices complement each very nicely.

My favourite songs from this album are Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer / Jingle Bell, Winter Wonderland (feat Boyz II Men), and White Christmas.

Pentatonix- Christmas is Here!

The Acapella group Pentatonix has released a new Christmas album entitled “Christmas is Here!”. Their Christmas albums are full of joy and cheer. This record is another example of that.

The music in this album is a mix of traditional and modern. Some of the songs remind me of carolers in Christmas movies. Their voices are the instruments of the songs. It’s impressive.

Pentatonix members have amazing voices.
More to come…
