Editorial: American Music Awards 2020

On November 22, 2020, the American Music Awards took place. Taraji P. Henson hosted the musical event. She did a fantastic job and did an incredible dance choreography.

  • New Artist of the Year: Doja Cat
  • Collaboration of the Year: Dan + Shay featuring Justin Bieber
  • Artist of the Year: Taylor Swift


  • The AMAs started with Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber, their new single Monster. Impressive!
  • Katy Perry and Darius Rucker perform a soulful and heartwarming duet of her song All The Love
  • The Weekend, featuring the saxophone player Kenny G, performs in a premiere performance of his single In Your Eyes.
  • Scottish artist Lewis Capaldi sang his latest single, Before You Go, in an incredible performance.
  • Billie Eilish performed magnificently her recent single Therefore I Am
  • What a nostalgic moment! Rap singer Nelly sang a medley of his hits from his album Country Grammar to celebrate the 20th anniversaryI went down memory lane, hearing these classics.
  • Jennifer Lopex and Maluma perform in an incredible duet of two songs from their rom-com Marry Me: Pa’ Ti and Lonely. Then it ends with J.Lo doing an epic chair dance.
  • Dua Lipa gave an impressive performance of her single Levitating, an AMA premiere in London.
  • Bell Biv Devoe sang a medley of their 90s hits in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their first appearances at the AMAs.
  • The Country duo Dan + Shay performed their single  I Should Go To Bed, a touching and romantic performance.
  • 24kGoldn and Iann Dior perform their single Mood with a bold sound and incredible vocals. The illusion of them standing on the side of the building was impressive.
  • Shawn Mendes gave an epic performance of his solo single Wonder with passion and style.
  • Lil Baby sang his single Emotionally Scarred, a song about mental illness, with heart and soul, as well as raw emotions.
  • The AMAs ended with a bubbly note with the performance by the South Korean boy band BTS of their two hit songs: Life Goes On and Dynamite in South Korea. Their colourful suits were unforgettable. Excellent performance!! 

Once again, congratulations to all the winners. Last night’s AMAs were entertaining and cheered us up during the tough times of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Excellent work to Taraji P. Henson in hosting the 2020 American Music Awards.
