Editorial: 2020 CCMA Awards

Canadian Country Music Association held the CCMA Awards on September 27, 2020, without a host, but with presenters in Canada and the USA. Good job!

The event took place in two cities: Burl’s Creek, Ontario, Canada and Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Artists performed some of their recent hits in either of the two locations. Thank you to our neighbours south of the border for your contribution to the CCMA Awards. Country music brings people together, regardless of background.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Here are some of my highlights of the 2020 CCMA Awards.

– The Opening Act with three fantastic individual performances

The Recklaws, Mackenzie Porter, and Brett Kissel.

-Tenille Townes gave a heartfelt performance of the song Jersey On The Wall about remembering the good times during a breakup.

-Jojo Nason sang As If We Won’t, with magnificent rhythm

– Lyndsey Ell performed her fantastic hit Want Me Back

-Tebey and Marie-Mai were performing their single The Good Ones

The homage to the upcoming Country artists through the Top of The Country Program.

– The Hunter Brothers sang their latest hit, Hard Dirt.

-Tim McGraw’s heartwarming performance of I Called Mama

– James Barker Band’s performance in which half the group performed in Ontario, Canada and Tenessee, USA. With the “magic” of Television, it looked like the band members were singing together. Impressive!

– There were moments where the nominated artists answered questions of their time during quarantine and the new perspective they developed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

– Meghan Patrick and her bold singing of the latest hit Girls Like Me

– Sam Hunt impressively gave two performances: one on his own, the song and the other with Breland Don’t Touch My Truck.

– Congratulations to Dallas Smith, the recipient of the entertainer of the year award. Nice Work!

He gave a stunning performance of his recent hit Timeless.

Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Tenille Townes, Lyndsay Ell and Meghan Patrick performed the beautiful song Lost Together. A group of fantastic voices all in one performance!

-The CCMA Awards ended on a grand note with a performance by Dean Broday and the Recklaws. They gave a thoughtful shoutout to the Frontline workers.

-Lastly, thank you to the artists who said their good-byes at the ends.

Once again, excellent work to the presenters of the CCMA Awards. This event brought the best of two worlds: Country music in Canada and the USA. The camaraderie was lovely to see.

Congratulations to all the winners!
