Canadian singer Chantal Kreviazuk has released her eighth album Get To You. The overall themes are love and heartbreak.
The music is pop mixed with Indie, R&B, and some electric beats. It parallels to 90s classic songs, including Chantal Kreviazuk’s single entitled Baby Before You. The compositions are incredible and intricate. The instruments heard throughout the album are the piano, the guitar, and the drums. The bold variety in the combination of musical genres adds an incredible flavour to the record. The wavy beats are rhythmic and complement the overall vibe.
Chantal Kreviazuk’s voice is husky and magnificent. Her vocal style is similar to that of Sheryl Crow, Cyndi Lauper, and Alanis Morrisette.
The lyrics are poetic and expressive, with a romantic touch. Some songs are about the joys of being in a relationship. Other tunes, however, cover the topic of heartbreak throughout the different stages. The metaphors throughout the album play an essential role in telling the stories- an example of this would be the song entitled Room Full of People. The poetic style of the tracks reminds me of classic hits by Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam) and Carly Simon. The lyrics have a beautiful depth that amplifies the raw emotions. The intricacy of the words is fantastic and smart.
My favourite songs are Love Gone Insane, Keep Going, Shooting Star, and Wings.
