Acts of Solidarity: Music Edition

Flora Youssef – Love of Music

In this difficult time of the Coronavirus pandemic, I would like to take a moment to thank our healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, supermarket workers, the news anchors, the journalists and those who bring groceries/essential to those who can’t go out. You are all doing incredible work. Thank you!!

As a music blogger, I also want to thank the artists who sing virtually or from their apartment balconies. I discovered a French Opera Tenor name Stéphane Sénéchal who performs daily each morning from his balcony. I heard him sing the French National Anthem La Marseillaise. His voice is incredible

I have also listened to news clips where Italian Opera musicians are performing for their neighbours. There was also an Israeli Opera serenading to her father in quarantine. There many examples like this that are heartwarming.

I recently received messages from family and friends parodies from famous songs either from the 70s or even the 90s. A friend sent me a video of a parody of the Bee Gees song Stayin’ Alive, which became Stayin’ Inside. Another was a spoof of Gloria Gaynor I Will Survive that was hilarious.

I have been touched by how acts of solidarity, especially in the music world, are cheering people up during this pandemic.

Stay inside and stay safe, everyone!
Flora Youssef

Here are examples of performances and parodies.
