French singer Slimane released a new EP, SELFISH. The five songs I will review on the EP can also be found on a new version of Slimane’s album Il Faut Que Tu Saches (You have to know)
The music is French Pop. The EP features songs with dynamic composition. The compositions blend multiple musical styles.
Higher is a bold start to the EP. The structure is incredible, moving from slow to fast with great, upbeat music. The rhythm is rich and dynamic. The song has a catchy beat that brings people together.
Fallait pas has a fantastic semi-fast beat. The composition suits this song because the tempo changes reflect the man’s conflicting emotions as the relationship risks ending. The music conveys these profound feelings beautifully.
Selfish features a dynamic sound. The song has an impressive, complex composition with a catchy beat. The music is eclectic and reflects perfectly the story the tune conveys.
Mon soleil is a lovely blend of French Pop and Arabic Pop. It feels relaxing, then smoothly transitions to a semi-fast beat, creating upbeat energy. The joyful beat is beautiful, inspiring one to smile and appreciate the little pleasures in life.
Ainsi faite has a heavy beat with bold intensity. There’s great piano playing in the background. The slow rhythm perfectly reflects heartbreak and confusion.
The EP has incredible music, blending multiple styles smoothly with a dynamic sound. The compositions are impressive.
Slimane’s voice is remarkable and powerful. His vocal range is incredible, conveying a wide range of emotions, sometimes in the same song! He has an unforgettable, rich voice that is full of passion.
The lyrics are full of heart and soul – rich in poetry and imagery. Slimane and his team did an excellent job writing these five profound songs.
Higher (a duet with Vanina) is a beautiful song about spirituality and determination to be the best version of oneself. It’s also a lovely blend of three languages: French, English and Arabic. It’s a well-written song, rich in poetry.
Fallait pas is a profound song about heartbreak regarding a relationship that’s in danger or, worse, it’s over. The subject matter is relatable and explains in great detail how complex relationships can be, especially those mixed feelings of love but also grief.
Selfish is about doing what feels right and focusing on oneself, even if it doesn’t please everyone (without harm, of course). It reminds me of spiritual journeys during times of self-reflection. The poetry is so beautiful throughout this incredible song.
Mon soleil is a heartfelt (even romantic) metaphor about hope in finding true love. It can also describe love for one’s child. The grey-sky and rain analogy captures this genuine love perfectly. The tune beautifully captures the blessing of meeting someone who improves your life.
Ainsi faite describes the feeling that life is unfair, but it also teaches you to make do with what you have. It’s heartbreak, but it represents the sentiment of many. It also reminds you not to give up and, most importantly, to be gentle with yourself when you learn from your mistakes.
These five songs have beautifully written lyrics, rich in poetry and emotion. Each tells a genuinely relatable story.
The EP SELFISH is available.
