In honour of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Shakira & Burna Boy released their single, Dai Dai. I chose to pay homage to this dynamic song during the last weekend of the FIFA World Cup.
The songwriting team consists of Shakira, Burna Boy, Ed Sheeran, Benny Adam, Jon Bellion & Alexander “A.C.” Castillo.
The music is Pop with lovely Latin sounds. The beat is dynamic with bold energy. The composition has an incredible build-up to the chorus. The rhythm is remarkable, going from slow to fast to everything in between. The intricacy in this composition is phenomenal. The songwriters did an excellent job of capturing those mixed emotions, which the rhythm perfectly represents. A.C. (Alexander Castillo) did great work with the tune’s musical programming. The music has a joyful, hopeful vibe that unites people. Shakira, Burna Boy, Ed Sheeran, Benny Adam, Jon Bellion & Alexander “A.C.” Castillo did great work composing this piece, smoothly blending different musical genres.
Shakira & Burna Boy are an incredible duo. Their voices beautifully complement each other. The contrast in vocal styles is lovely and well thought out. It’s an impressive duet.
The lyrics are inspirational and full of hope. It beautifully blends English and Spanish. Its simplicity gives this single its charm. The tune has a beautiful message: never give up on one’s dreams by maintaining hope, determination, and perseverance. Another point it makes is to focus on the present moment and let go of the past. The song also pays homage to remarkable soccer/football players, such as Mbappé and Mo Salah, and mentions the countries that participated in the FIFA World Cup. It ends on an enthusiastic note by saying “Let’s Go,” which is motivational and hopeful. My favourite line is “What broke you once, made you strong,” which beautifully represents the resilience people have after facing a challenge.
