Happy Canada Day to all Canadians celebrating in Canada and around the world.
This year’s Canadian artist of the year is Fredz. He’s a RAP singer from Longueuil, Quebec. His singing style reminds me of French rap from the 90s, with a contemporary twist. I first discovered Fredz’s music at the ADISQ Gala (Quebec’s version of the Grammy that honours Québécois/Francophone artists), where I heard Stade (level/stage) and saw his impressive performance.
Fredz’s voice is incredible, with an amazing vocal style. He sings each song from the heart, which fits the depth of his lyrics. There’s a great variety in his music, ranging from a dynamic/upbeat sound to relaxing, even contemplative, sounds. He’s beautifully expressive in conveying emotions and telling stories with great precision. The attention to detail in his songs is remarkable.
I have listened to many of Fredz’s songs and discovered a unique quality in his approach to performing RAP. Some of my favourite songs include Stade, Mademoiselle (Miss) and Nova. I follow him on social media and saw he’s touring in Quebec, as well as in France, Belgium, and Switzerland. It’s exciting to see Fredz’s career evolve and expand. His dance videos went viral over the past few years, bringing him visibility, and his albums and music videos show how Fredz evolved as an artist.
I look forward to discovering more of Fredz’s music.
I wish you a successful career, Fredz!
Happy Canada Day!
