Single Saturdays: Les Hay Babies – Entre Le Chien et Le Loup

Les Hay Babies, a Canadian trio from New Brunswick, released a new single, Entre Le Chien et Le Loup (Between the Dog and the Wolfe). The song

The music is French Pop and Folk. The intro parallels The Knack’s 1970s single My Sharona with a Folk touch. The end of each verse parallels David Bowie’s 1980s hit Let’s Dance. The chorus reminds me of Daniel Bélanger’s Je poursuis mon bonheur. Julie Aubé, Vivianne Roy, and Mico Roy played the electric guitar excellently. Mico Roy also plays the slide guitar. Marc André Belliveau is fantastic at playing the drums. It starts slow and then goes up with a gradient tempo. There’s a remarkable technique in blending old-school and contemporary musical styles. The song has an excellent composition, and the rhythm is dynamic.

Katrine Noël is the lead vocalist. She has an impressive, husky voice—the female version of David Bowie’s vocal style. Julie Aubé and Vivianne Roy are doing a great job with background vocals. Their voices complement each other nicely, and they sing with a bold passion.

The lyrics of Entre Le Chien et Le Loup are a testament to the trio’s creativity. They are dynamic, poetic, and abstract, rich in imagery and metaphors. The use of the Acadian/New Brunswick way of speaking in the song adds a personal touch, making the song a unique and engaging listening experience. The tune celebrates personal growth and encourages a time of soul-searching. It’s also about hanging out with the girls and having fun. It’s a change from songs about love and heartbreak or a mix of the two. The lyrics are well-written, with clever freestyle poetry.

The single Entre Le Chien et Le Loup is available.
