Single Saturdays: Barnev – J’essaie d’oublier

Canadian and Quebecois singer Barnev released a new single, J’essaie d’oublier (I’m trying to forget). The song is about the struggle to move on from a breakup, and it’s tough, especially around the days near Valentine’s Day. Barnev Valsaint, Ikram Ouanassa Belbahari and Jeff-Marco Martinez Lebron are the songwriters of the single.

The music is French Pop and R&B. The song has an intense beat, representing heartbreak and grief following a breakup. The sound reminds me of Corneille’s late 90s/early 2000s music. There’s also a 70s-style sound that reminds me of the dance beat of that time. Barnev Valsaint, Ikram Ouanassa Belbahari and Jeff-Marco Martinez Lebron did an incredible job with the composition. The rhythm is impressive in giving the vibe representing the different waves of emotions. Barnev Valsaint also produced this single. The sound is dynamic and edgy.

Barnev’s voice is soft and husky. He’s expressive in his heartbreak. He captures the emotions perfectly, representing various stages of grief.

The lyrics are sad and relatable. The song describes many common challenges people face (especially after a breakup), particularly around Valentine’s Day. The words are well-written with dynamic poetry. Barnev Valsaint, Ikram Ouanassa Belbahari and Jeff-Marco Martinez captured the grief and heartbreak with precision and depth – it’s vulnerable and genuine. The chorus is impactful in describing the time post-breakup, with such raw emotions. The song is remarkable with its lyrical simplicity – a little goes a long way.

The single J’essaie d’oublier is available.
