American artist Lee released a new album entitled The Reprieve. The themes are love, heartbreak and life.
The music is Pop. The album starts with a musical intro, Preludio, with the piano and birds chirping in the background. It sets the tone for the rest of the record.
The song Perfect has a fun, fast beat that gives it a Lionel Richie vibe (i.e. All Night Long). The piece Enjoy Yourself parallels Michael Jackson’s songs from the album Off the Wall. It has an Earth, Wind & Fire influence that gives it a catchy sound. There’s a bold and incredible guitar solo.
The song Drive has a fun Dance vibe that reminds me of the disco music of the 70s.
Some pieces have an impressive semi-fast beat. The song I Hope You Found a Home has a positive vibe despite the challenging circumstances it describes in the story. Famous has a fantastic, wavy rhythm that represents mixed emotions. In You has an incredible techno-style sound that gives the tune an intricate composition. The beat represents a sense of contemplation and self-reflection. The Death of Vernon is a bold song. It reminds me of Destiny’s Child’s single Independent Women Part I, but with a Jazzy twist.
Other songs have a slow tempo. The tunes include I Know and Little Dreamer, representing a heartfelt, relaxing rhythm and beautiful vibes.
The album has two fantastic musical numbers: A Series of Unfortunate Decisions and The Reprieve. The piece A Series of Unfortunate Decisions has an impressive guitar solo that parallels Brian May’s guitar solo in Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. About halfway through, the song briefly picks up in tempo and then slows down again. The Reprieve has a lovely, romantic vibe. It’s relaxing and sweet.
The music throughout the record is diverse in musical styles. There are remarkable compositions.
Lee’s voice is husky and dynamic. He has an impressive vocal range. He sings with edge and style. He captures the mood and vibe of each song.
The lyrics are profound and written with a bold simplicity. Some songs are romantic. The tune Perfect celebrates true love and the happiness that comes with it. The other pieces include Enjoy Yourself and Drive. The song I Know is a heartfelt homage to the woman he loves. The Death of Vernon is an emotional tune rich in poetry. The love songs are poetic, with a touch of reading between the lines.
There’s also the theme of heartbreak. I Hope You Found a Home is about moving on from a breakup with a positive attitude and bearing no ill will to the ex. That’s a good example.
Some tunes cover a variety of other subjects, including fame and having fun. The song Famous is about the glitz and glam of show business and its superficial aspects. The piece Live from Florida Avenue is a party song, and it’s a dynamic segue to the rest of the album.
The album The Reprieve is available.
