German-based artist Cagri Raydemir released a new EP, Absence. The theme is, as the record title describes it, the absence or lack of various virtues.
Cagri Raydemir did the lyrics, music, vocals, instruments, programming, recording, mixing, and mastering.
The music is Rock. The beat of each song is suitable for the EP’s vibe. Cagri Raydemir did remarkable work composing the four songs on the EP. The record has a Tragically Hip vibe. The EP has a catchy beat. The music is bold, including the impressive guitar solos.
The song Absence of Patience (featuring Julian Hesse, the Trumpet) has an incredible beat. It feels like Nirvana meets Aerosmith, smoothly mixed with Jazz parts from the trumpet played by Julian Hesse. It has an old-school feel.
The piece Absence of Candor has an incredible bass playing in the background. It parallels The Eagles’ hit Hotel California and some parts of David Bowie’s 90s hit I’m Afraid of Americans, but with a slower tempo.
The tune Absence of Courtesy has impressive synthesizer sounds. It parallels the passage of Bohemian Rhapsody, the part after the introductions. The guitar and bass are in sync with one another.
The song Absence of Tolerance has fantastic slow guitar parts; some have a harp-like sound. The beats are dynamic. The music has an operatic style that blends well with Rock-style rhythm.
The music is phenomenal in all of the four tracks.
Cagri Raydemir’s voice is bold and husky. He has an incredible vocal style that smoothly shifts from one to another. He sings each song with a genuine vulnerability.
The lyrics are expressive and profound. Each song has raw emotions but also feels abstract at first until one hears the words extensively. Also, each piece has a title that starts with absence (of patience, candor, coutesy and tolerance), which is especially significant today. The EP has a theme of wondering what’s happening worldwide with a stream-of-consciousness sentiment.
The song Absence of Patience is relevant, describing the lack of patience in modern times, mainly because of the fast pace of daily life. The piece Absence of Candor focuses on the lack of honesty- a frustration to fight lies candidly. Absence of Courtesy is a heartbreaking piece about people who seem to have less kindness and even etiquette, less sensitivity. The tune Absence of Tolerance is a metaphor for the importance of being more accepting of others, more understanding and more compassionate.
The four songs on the EP demonstrate the problems in today’s world. Each piece brings up a different struggle of modern times.
The EP Absence is available.
