First Album Fridays: Miss Sassoeur – Giggles

Canadian and Quebecoise artist Miss Sassœur released her first album entitled Giggles. The themes are life, love and nostalgia.

The music is R&B and French Pop. The album has a mix of 90s RAP and 70s Disco musical styles. The sound is bold and edgy. The piano and the violin add a dynamic touch. There are impressive beats throughout the record.
The album has some fast-paced songs: Flocon, Eau and All léger. The piece Flocon has bold musical piano sounds. The song Eau (Water) has a beautiful rhythm that is upbeat but also soothing. The song All léger (All light) parallels Destiny’s Child’s singles Jumpin’ Jumpin’ and Bills, Bills, Bills from the 90s, but with a slightly slower tempo. It starts slowly, then bold transitions to a faster beat that reminds me of the Rocky Balboa theme.
The record has excellent ballads with impressive tempos. The tune Mon Absence (My Absence) has a 70s vibe that parallels the music of Aretha Franklin and the Supremes. The song Ne Cherche Pas (Don’t look) reminds me of Ariane Moffatt’s Réverbère and Je Veux Tout (I Want Everything). Ma Maison (My House) has lovely violin music playing in the background that complements the story. The tune 24 hours parallels Beauty School Dropout from the movie Grease and some parts of Elton John’s Benny and the Jets. The 70s vibe adds a bold touch to the song. Awwmen has lovely violin and cello music that complements the upbeat feeling. The rhythm is nice and wavy – a phenomenal structure.
The music in this album is diverse in musical styles. The compositions are remarkably intricate.

Miss Sassœur’s voice is rich and rhythmic. She performs her songs with incredible depth and impressive vocal range. She has a soulful way of singing.

The lyrics are deep and soulful. Each song feels personal and from the heart. There’s a lot of thought that went into each tune.
A fantastic post-breakup song is Flocon (Snowflake). It is an impressive piece about a woman with the courage to move on after a break. The strength of the tune feels palpable.
The romantic songs on the album are a nice contrast to the mainstream love songs. Ne Cherche Pas is a hopeful and sweet song about not feeling the pressure of finding love, as it will find us at the right moment. Eau is a heartfelt tune about feeling relaxed when it’s on the face, like the warm sun. There’s a lovely sense of ease.
Miss Sassœur has incredible personal songs about life’s journey, such as appreciating every moment and practicing self-love and self-compassion. The tune Mon Absence is a poetic metaphor about life and death. The song Ma Maison is touching and personal, with profound emotions. There’s beautiful freestyle poetry. The tune 24 hours is about someone visiting for a day. It gives an inspirational message about making the most of those 24 hours with lovely freestyle poetry. Awwmen is another moving song that focuses on making peace with the past, overcoming life’s obstacles with courage and living in the present moment. It’s full of hope and confidence.
The lyrics are heartfelt and written with remarkable depth and linguistic richness.
