American singer Chris Isaak has a new Christmas album entitled Everybody Knows It’s Christmas. There are five covers and eight original pieces.
The music is Holiday and Rock combined with some Country. The musical style in the album parallels 1950s-style Rock, especially that of Elvis Presley. Holiday Blues parallels Elvis Presley’s Blue Christmas and Olvia Newton-John’s Hopeless Devoted to You in terms of rhythm and composition. Chris Isaak playing the guitar in the background is fantastic, such as the renditions of Run Rudolph Run and Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. The same also goes for the original tune Almost Christmas. Also, the piano adds to the holiday cheer. The song I Believe In Santa Claus reminds me of Bing Crosby’s Christmas music. Everybody Knows It’s Christmas has a lovely composition parallel to John Lennon’s classic hit Give Peace a Chance. Dave Cobb and Chris Isaak did remarkable work producing these Christmas songs, including the eight original songs. Chris Isaak also composed the eight original tracks. The music has a lovely old-school beat. The album ends with a beautiful guitar sound playing in the background in a rendition of O Holy Night.
Chris Isaak’s voice is deep, with an impressive baritone style. He also sings with a Rock & Roll style, such as with the tune Jingle Bell Rock. He performs with an incredible variety of vocal styles, adapting to the tone of each Christmas song.
The album has eight original songs, all written by Chris Isaak.
The song Holiday Blues is about the first Christmas without a significant other. It’s a relatable piece to which one relates. The tune I Believe In Santa Claus is childlike, soulful and heartwarming. The track Everybody Knows It’s Christmas is a touching and cute story of Christmas celebrations with family and friends. The joy feels genuine. Christmas Comes But Once A Year is another heartbreak song about a breakup after Christmas of the previous year. There’s a sense of hope that the partner might come back. It’s interesting that the open-ended idea of this story. The tune Help Me Baby Jesus tells a funny story about the missing baby Jesus from a nativity display outside the home. It ends on a neighbourly note when the neighbour returns him to the nativity scene. The song Dogs Love Christmas Too is a simplistic cute story of dogs’ part during the Christmas season, including their loyalty. Wrapping Presents For Myself is a heartbreaking piece about spending the holidays alone, a relatable struggle during this time of year. Lastly, the tune Almost Christmas is a funny story about last-minute Christmas shoppers, a common situation for some this time of year. These original songs describe the various experiences and emotions of the holidays in detail.
