Soundtrack Saturdays: Weird The Al Yankovic Story

The movie Weird: The Al Yankovic Story came out on November 4, 2022. The soundtrack was released the same day, featuring one new song and six of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s most famous hits, such as My BolognaI Love Rocky Road, and Like a Surgeon
It’s fun to hear Weird Al Yankovic’s earlier parodies when he started simple, playing his songs with the accordion as his main instrument. There’s a feeling of nostalgia hearing these parodies.

Weird Al Yankovic also has a couple of short songs: Clarinet Polka and Beat on the Brat. He also composed an instrumental tune, You’re All a Bunch of Slaves.

The soundtrack has an original new song entitled Now You Know. This piece sounds like it will get played during the credits. It’s a humorous take on explaining the story of the movie Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

After Weird Al’s parodies and songs, the rest of the soundtrack consists mainly of music scores heard throughout the movie. The first one is a piece by Roto Rooter Good Time Christmas Band’s song Dr. Demento Opening Theme (Pico & Sepulveda)– it has some singing but mostly music.

There are two fun polka songs composed by Cory Pesaturo: Beer Barrel Polka (Roll Out the Barrel) and Helena Polka. Then there’s a famous party song by The Emeralds, The Chicken Dance, aka The Bird Dance
Skunk Barf’s 13-second song Bowling with the Devil has a bold Rock & Roll vibe. The Guadalajara Song by Cesar Chavira, César Ramírez, and Omar Estrada has a lovely violin song.

There are impressive scores by Leo Birenberg & Zach Robinson, and they end the soundtrack. The compositions are remarkable. They complement the vibe of the movie.

The soundtrack for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is available.
