I watched the Oscars last April. However, I admit I missed watching the performances during the pre-show. I thought it would happen at the Awards show. I did record it, though and watched it (both on T.V. and Youtube).
Here are brief reviews of each performance.
Fight For You from Judas and the Black Messiah
Performed by H.E.R
Written & composed by H.E.R
-Impressive performance! H.E.R sang with passion and authenticity, just like the studio recorded version. It starts with H.E.R, who played the drums remarkably. The band was incredible. The back-singers added a bold layer to the performance.
Hear My Voice from The Trial of the Chicago 7
Performed by Celeste
Written by Celeste & Daniel Pemberton
Composed by Daniel Pemberton
-Celeste sings with heart and soul. The orchestra did a fantastic job playing in sync with one another. The piano player was incredible. All the musicians played with precision. The ballad was beautiful to hear in a concert-style setting.
“Husavik” from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga
Performed by Molly Sandén
(Will Ferrell & My Marianne performed the song in the movie)
Written by Fat Max Gsus, Rickard Göransson & Savan Kotecha
Composed by Rickard Göransson & Savan Kotecha
-The performance started with Children performing beautifully, just like a choir. Molly Sandén did an incredible singing in both Icelandic and English.
lo Sì (Seen) from The Life Ahead (La Vita Davanti a Se)
Performed by Laura Pausini
Written & Composed by Laura Pausini, Diane Warren & Niccolò Agliardi
-Laura Pausini is remarkable in this performance. She captures the essence of the song through an incredible vocal range. She sings in Italian and English, changing from one to the other smoothly.
Speak Now from One Night in Miami
Performed by Leslie Odom Jr.
Written by Leslie Odom Jr. & Sam Ashworth
Composed by Leslie Odom Jr. & Sam Ashworth
-Leslie Odom Jr has a great rhythm in his singing. The live performance felt reminded me of Church choir performances. He sang with heart and soul, just like the studio version.
Congratulations again to H.E.R for winning the best song for her single Fight for You at the 93rd Academy Awards.
