American singer Jimmie Allen has a new EP entitled Bettie James- he pays tribute to his late grandmother and father through their first names. The themes are love, heartbreak, perseverance, and faith.
The music is Country/Pop/R&B. The EP is a mix of old-school with a contemporary sound- blended nicely together. The instruments heard are primarily the guitar and the banjo. The piano has a lovely presence in the song Made for These (with Tim McGraw). The music is incredible and catchy with a bold rhythm. The compositions are excellent and well-structured.
Jimmie Allen’s voice is bold and incredible. His performances with various artists are lovely. Hearing the experiences from singers like Darius Rucker and the late Charley Pride in collaboration with the new sound of Jimmie Allen is beautiful in the song Why Things Happen. The other fantastic duets are with Nelly (Good Time Roll), Mickey Guyton (Drunk & I Miss You), Tim McGraw (Made For These), Brad Paisley (Freedom Was A Highway), Noah Cyrus (This Is Us), and Rita Wilson, Tauren Wells, The Oak Ridge Boys in the piece When This Is Over. Incredible voices!
The lyrics are romantic or expressive of heartbreak, depending on the song. The words are well-written and relatable – full of heart and soul. The description of each tune is detailed. Jimmie Allen co-wrote the songs in this EP. The poetry throughout this record is remarkable, including Freedom Was A Highway (with Brad Paisley), a metaphor for life’s journey. The stories are deep and genuine.
