American singer Tori Kelly has released a new Christmas album entitled A Tori Kelly Christmas. It has two originals and eleven covers.
The music is Holiday and Pop. The compositions are beautiful, with a smooth rhythm, well-structured. The sound of the piano is impressive to hear and adds a lovely musical flavour. The album has a 90s feel to it, especially girl bands’ music like Dream and TLC. The covers of the Christmas classics have a contemporary tone that complements Tori Kelly’s musical style, such as Let It Snow and This Christmas. O Holy Night and O Come, O Come Emmanuel / O Come All Ye Faithful have simplistic music to focus on these religious songs’ lyrics. The Elf Interlude is a nice little bridge for the rest of the album. It ends on a soft note with a cover the Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah (the version from the movie Sing). The music of this record is remarkable
Tori Kelly’s voice is rhythmic and graceful. She hits the high notes at just the right moments. She parallels Gwen Stefani in her vocal style, especially during the No Doubt years. She sings about Christmas with heart and soul.
The lyrics of the two original songs have remarkable poetry and are from the heart.
The song 25th is romantic and cute. It’s about a woman looking forward to celebrating with her significant other. This tune is apropos because of the COVID pandemic, where Christmas may be limited to just those living in the same home.
The tune Gift That Keeps on Giving is also romantic and sweet. It’s about how the best gift is love, which one can receive year-round. The fantastic song is full of joy and hope.
These pieces are expressive of the Christmas spirit and bring a lot of cheer.
