Soundtrack Saturdays: The High Note

May 29, 2020, the movie The Hign Note has been released virtually for the world to see. The soundtrack came out the same day in which there six original songs performed by Tracee Ellis Ross. Also, there some fantastic cover by Kelvin Harrison Jr along with classic hits from artists like Aretha Franklin and Donny Hathaway.

The music is R&B/Soul. The soundtrack has a mix of sounds from the oldies and contemporary melodies. There’s a 70s vibe, and it adds a nostalgic touch. The six original songs Love Myself (including the movie version), Stop for a Minute, Bad Girl, New to Me, and Like I Do (in duet with Kelvin Harrison, Jr have a modern tone. Hearing classic by many artists, including Aretha Franklin, is a beautiful homage to the classics. The music is catchy and rhythmic. It incredible to listen to the combination of different musical styles.

Tracee Ellis Ross’s voice is powerful, empowering and passionate. She sings from the heart and expresses the emotions her character feels with conviction.

Kelvin Harrison Jr. has a smooth and rhythmic voice. His vocal style parallels to that of Stevie Wonder and Al Green.

Both Tracee Ellis Ross and Kelvin Harrison Jr. sing magnificently together in their duet with the song Like I Do.

Anthony Ramos has a magnificent voice in his performance of the song Mind Over Matter.

The lyrics of the original songs Love Myself (including the movie version), Stop for a Minute, Bad Girl, New to Me, and Like I Do (in duet with Kelvin Harrison, Jr) are incredible and inspirational. The words encourage women’s empowerment and are full of hope, especially for the protagonist, especially with the tune Stop for a Minute. The song Like I Do is romantic and sweet. The lyrics are well-written and genuine.

I look forward to watching the movie soon, in the comfort of my home. 😉

The High Note is available in virtual theatres.
