Soundtrack Saturdays: Blinded By The Light

The movie Blinded By The Light is in theatre, and its soundtrack is available. The movie is a beautiful homage to Bruce Springsteen through the perspective of a young Pakistani man named Javed (Viveik Kalra) living in England. The film took inspiration from journalist Sarfraz Manzoor’s life and love for Bruce Springsteen’s music.

Half of the soundtrack consists of original songs by Bruce Springsteen. Six of them that the cast of Blinded By The Light performs. A.R Rahman has two songs: Ode To Javed/ Javed’s Poem and For You My Love. Indian artist Heera has a tune in the soundtrack entitled Maar Chadapa. There’s also a song performed by Indian Actor Amer Chadha-Patel entitled Get Out Of My Way Fascists. Lastly, there are classic hits by A-ha (The Sun Always Shines On T.V.), and The Pet Shop Boys (It’s a Sin).
The switch from the actors’ songs from to the movie to an original by Bruce Springsteen, A-HA, or The Pet Chop is with a smooth flow.

The performance by the cast in this soundtrack is similar to spoken word with music in the background. A couple of tunes performed by the actors are acoustic performances. Bruce Springsteen’s songs are original hits, as well as live performances from various events throughout his career.

I learned more about Bruce Springsteen’s music through this soundtrack, which is now available.
