Single Saturdays: Nassif Zeytoun – Azmit Si’a

Lebanese singer Nassif Zeytoun has released a new single entitled Azmit Si’a (Difficult Times)*. It’s the theme song for a Syrian soap opera Al Heyba (Prestige- according to sources). It tells the story about someone who is going through hardship following a heartbreak from a failed relationship.

The music is Arabic Pop mixed with a Jazz-like sound. There’s a languid rhythm throughout the song, which reflects how the person is feeling. The version from the video below has the diegetic sound of water from the shower that compliments the music nicely. There’s a lovely instrumental combination of the violin and the piano.

Nassif Zeytoun’s voice is incredible, as always. He knows how to hit the high, at the right time. When he sings the verses, his voice is deep and heavy because of the sadness he feels. He follows the rhythm of the song perfectly, including at the end where his voice has a fading effect. He captures the emotion perfectly in his singing style.

The lyrics reflect the feeling of sadness and heartbreak. There’s even fear and doubt because of the deep hurt the person feels. There’s a freestyle flow to the words of “Azmit Si’a.” Sometimes there is a mix of the poetic structures of AABB and ABBA, yet there’s a smooth flow to the lyrics. It’s impressive! Fours lines can have the same rhyming sound, and other times it’s a classic poetic style. The style of the composition of the words reflects the mood of the tune precisely. It’s a beautifully written song.

The song Azmit Si’a is now available.
