Single Saturdays: Meghan Oak – Chaos

Canadian and Québécoise singer Meghan Oak released a new single, Chaos.  The song is about the aftermath of a breakup.

The music is French Pop. The song features a dynamic composition with a wavy rhythm that reflects the different stages of grief after a breakup. The music also has a hopeful tone, bringing peace of mind from the lessons learned.  The guitar is a nice touch to the song. It parallels the intro of Christina Perri’s 2011 single Arms, but with a slightly faster tempo.  The beat is catchy and edgy. It echoes classic 90s Pop, especially from female artists early in their careers. The chorus tempo reflects frustration, while the verses move slower, conveying the nuances of life after the breakup. The team of composers and musicians did an excellent job with the composition’s structure. This is the perfect tune for that moment when you feel ready to move on.

Meghan Oak’s voice is rhythmic and expressive. She sings with passion, starting by questioning herself and then becoming more optimistic.

The lyrics are heartfelt and relatable, capturing a profound moment of maturity as the singer breaks up and realises their mistakes. Meghan Oak did an excellent job expressing the multiple facets of the breakup aftermath. She shares her experience, exploring joy, heartbreak, confusion, nostalgia, and closure. It starts with her wondering if her ex still thinks about her, then realising it’s not worth opening that door. She admits her mistakes but also expresses profound maturity. The song also conveys self-compassion and a new perspective regarding matters of the heart. It explores what could’ve been different, nostalgia, and the straightforward wants of a relationship. The nuances are well thought out, and the reasoning is relatable. The poetic flow is natural and easy to follow. The blend of English and French is impressive. The bilingual aspect adds another creative layer.
