First EP Fridays: Elsyia Biro – Running from Nothing

Singer-songwriter Elysia Biro released her first EP, Running From Nothing. The themes are self-love, contemplation and heartbreak.

The music is Folk and Singer/Songwriter. The musicians’ team is remarkable, playing an incredible range of instruments.

There are two lovely ballads on this EP, each with a specific mood. Fool’s Gold features a lovely piano playing in the background. The ballad has a smooth, wavy rhythm. The music of this track is relaxing, and it ends with a bold fade-out. Mason Stoops (electric and acoustic guitar), Kaveh Rastegar (upright bass), Jay Bellerose (drums, percussion), and Larry Goldings (organ), along with Elysia Biro on electric piano, are a phenomenal musical team creating this jovial atmosphere.

Wish I Were Better features slow, heavy piano in the background, creating a feeling of dread and heartache. It reminds me of Sarah McLachlan’s I Will Remember You.  The music is phenomenal in conveying a particular type of sadness.  Elsysia Biro (piano and electric guitar), Alex Bone (Alto Saxophone), Abraham Rounds (drums & percussion), and Nicholas Clark (upright bass) do an excellent job of creating a melancholy feeling.

The other three songs have this fun, semi-fast beat with great energy and upbeat vibe. Running From Nothing has a nice jazz vibe with a dynamic beat. The team of musicians: Elysia (piano & electric guitar), Nicholas Clark (upright bass), Alex Bone (alto saxophone), and Abraham Rounds (drums & percussion) is impressive in capturing those mixed feelings before venturing onto the next endeavour. The mood is beautifully conveyed in the song’s incredible composition.
Gentleman Blue features a wavy rhythm and a great, upbeat piano track. It has a fun 60s/70s vibe. Elysia Biro (a variety of pianos, hand clasps, synthesiser & electric guitar), Alex Bone (alto saxophone & organ), Adam Friedman (acoustic guitar), Abraham Rounds (drums & percussion), Nicholas Clark (upright bass) create a perfect musical harmony to convey that adventurous vibe. It’s a refreshing, joyful song.
Just Wait A Minute features relaxing, upbeat music that represents hope in this blooming true love. Those semi-fast tempos create a lovely sense of suspense, complementing the song’s beautiful composition. The piano solo adds a nice touch to this sweet song. The musical team: Elysia (Wurlitzer piano), Alex Bone (alto saxophone), Adam Friedman (acoustic guitar), Steve Bone (flute), Nicholas Clark (electric bass guitar & upright bass), and Abraham Rounds (drums & percussion) do an amazing job to end the EP on a fun, fresh note, with bold energy.

The music on this record is unique, with a fresh sound seamlessly blended with old-fashioned beats, creating a dynamic vibe.

Elysia Biro’s voice has an incredible vocal range and hits high and low notes, smoothly alternating between them at times in her songs. She sings each tune with heart and soul.

The lyrics are poetic and deep, full of rich imagery. There’s so much that each song conveys, telling stories with feeling – from the heart.

Fool’s Gold is a song about the determination to follow one’s dreams and the contemplation of making the right choices in life. It’s a lovely metaphor about the importance of not being distracted by what others think.
Running From Nothing tells a clever story about the importance of not making up scenarios in one’s head. It has words of wisdom. It’s also a reminder to learn to take a leap of faith and see where life takes you.
Gentleman Blue is about adventure and the beautiful curiosity to discover the world. The song conveys adventure and the boldness to take a leap of faith during those exciting times. It’s full of hope and joy.
Wish I Were Better is a profound piece about soul-searching while processing intense grief. It’s a song that’s full of sadness and uncertainty regarding a relationship in which the guy might still be in love with a past flame.
Just Wait A Minute is a romantic song full of the joy of finding true love. It inspires hope that “the one” is out there.

The lyrics of these five songs are beautiful, with great depth and emotion. Each tune tells a profound story with impressive imagery.
