Discovering female artists throughout March, also known as Women’s History Month, has been a remarkable experience.
I discovered some new artists from the music I listened to and, most recently, of the 2025 Juno Awards. The female singers I have heard sang with heart and soul, covering topics like empowerment to love and, at times, heartbreak. These women are phenomenally talented. They’re not afraid to talk about complex subjects, especially if it involves personal struggles.
On March 28, I reviewed Sofia Camara’s profound EP Was I(t) Worth It, which discussed heartbreak at different stages. Another artist whose voice amazed me is Nemahsis, a Palestinian-Canadian artist. She sang at the Junos on March 31. It was impressive.
Other examples come from two Oscar-nominated songs heard in the movie Emilia Pérez, including El Mal, performed by Zoë Saldaña. So many other examples include Cynthia Erivo’s Replay. These remarkable, empowering, and inspirational tunes resonated with listeners.
It was a lovely Women’s History Month. I look forward to discovering more women artists throughout the year and next year’s Women’s History Month.
Take care,
Flora Youssef
