March 31, 2025, marks the 30th anniversary of Tejano singer Selena’s passing. Although her career was brief, she had an incredible impact on the Latin music scene. As part of Selena y Los Dinos, she had seven studio albums and five solo ones.
Selena had a soft, soulful voice. She also had a raspy voice. Her range of vocal styles was impressive. I heard some of her singles. According to sources, the music world dubbed Selena the “Tejano Madonna.” She had a remarkable talent for singing pop, cumbia, rancheras, and R&B. I admit my knowledge about the late Selena was from the movie and her bio on the internet. I learned so much about her during my research in recent weeks. She had this incredible talent and left a lasting impression on the music scene, especially Latin music. It’s heartbreaking that her life was cut short. Selena had an unforgettable presence.
Some of her famous singles include Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, Dreaming of You I and Could Fall in Love.
I admit my knowledge about Selena was limited, but I learned so much about her and her music as I researched and listened to her songs.
The Biopic Selena
In 1997, two years after Selena’s passing, the biopic Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez, came out and was a well-done film. I saw the movie and learned so much about the singer. Jennifer Lopez did an excellent job.
Selena left behind a phenomenal legacy. Her impact on the music scene was impressive. She sang with incredible finesse, and her voice was like no other.
Rest in Peace, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.
