Bob Marley: One Love – Movie & Music

Flashback Fridays

Today is the first anniversary of the release of the movie Bob Marley: One Love in theatres. I reviewed the soundtrack last year. The movie nicely honoured Bob Marley’s music.

Thoughts about the movie

Although the movie received mixed reviews, I enjoyed learning about the songs and Bob Marley’s life (both musically and personally). One can genuinely feel Bob Marley’s love for Jamaica. The intertitles were helpful indicators of time and location for crucial moments in the movie. The songs playing throughout the film followed the soundtrack’s order of the songs.

Kingsley Ben-Adir gave an impressive performance as the late Bob Marley. He looked like the legendary Reggae artist.

Lashana Lynch also gave a fantastic performance as Bob Marley’s wife, Rita. She had a bold presence throughout the movie.

The cast and crew did fantastic work. I enjoyed this film as a person who loves music.

Love Story: Bob & Rita

The most heartfelt moments were those with Bob Marley and his wife, Rita, from happy moments to challenging times. Their love for music was beautiful, and one could feel the romantic connection. The actors Kingsley Ben-Adir and Lashana Lynch, Bob and Rita, respectively, did a remarkable job capturing their love and chemistry.

I profoundly appreciate those moments that portrayed Bob Marley with great depth.

Songs

It was a joy to hear Bob Marley’s songs throughout the movie, starting with his famous single, Get Up, Stand Up. It set the mood for watching the biopic. I enjoyed hearing his timeless songs’ origin stories, which gave me a new perspective and appreciation.

My favourite part was the origin story of Bob Marley’s album Exodus. His determination to keep it simple was bold and admirable, and based on what I saw in the film, it was a good choice, as the record sold millions of copies.

Concert Scenes

The movie’s concert moments were impressive. The first scene was the Smile Jamaica concert, which set the tone for the movie. I felt as if I were there—so lively and dynamic. Although they were brief, I understood what touring was like for Bob Marley and his musicians.

It ends with the One Love Peace Concert on a positive note. That scene reminded me of the Live Aid segment on Bohemian Rhapsody. These concert segments were well done.

The movie was great. I enjoyed learning about the songs and Bob Marley’s life.
