American singer CeCe Winans released a new Christmas album, Joyful: A Christmas Album. There are seven covers and five original songs.
The musical genre is Inspirational. The music on this Christmas parallels Whitney Houston’s music, especially her successful single I’m Every Woman. Alvin Love III and his team of composers and musicians created beautiful compositions throughout the album, both the covers and the five original pieces.
The album has upbeat songs. This rendition of Joy To The World starts the album on a cheerful note with a new spin—a bold R&B vibe. Two songs have a lively choir vibe: Angels We Have Heard On High (Joyful, Joyful) and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. These pieces have a bold sound.
The ballads on this record are comforting. O Come, O Come, Emmanuel has a lovely harp playing in the background that reminds me of The Nutcracker’s Sugar Plum ballet number. Silent Night beautifully starts with the guitar playing slowly and calmly. It then incorporates the piano, creating a close-knit setting.
Other pieces have a blend of slow and fast or semi-fast. I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day starts with an upbeat intro and smoothly slows down to a slower tempo before turning to a semi-fast beat. The composition is incredible. Feliz Navidad / O Holy Night has a guitar sound similar to Flamenco music, giving it a Spanish vibe (the Feliz Navi ad part). It starts with a slow rendition of Feliz Navidad—a lovely contrast to the more upbeat versions—then picks up the tempo. It feels cosy. After that, there’s a smooth segue to O Holy Night with modern sounds and a Jazz R&B beat. This track creates a sense of unity.
The five original songs have a festive vibe, creating a sentimental feeling.
It’s Christmas, with an upbeat sound and a dance vibe that gives the song bold, dynamic energy. The beat parallels the Supremes and Donna Summer’s musical styles—a 70s-style beat. The instrumental solo is impressive.
The song Something’s Happening features a lovely orchestra and sleigh bells in the background. The rhythm is smooth and flowing.
This World Will Never Be the Same is a soothi g ballad. The piano in the background complements the song’s vibe.
Giving Season has a rhythmic and cheerful beat. The rhythm is nice and wavy, creating that festive vibe.
The Grace of Father has joyful music that feels theatrical and exciting. It reminds me of musicals, especially the ones with Gene Kelly. It parallels traditional Christmas classics.
Cece Winans’ voice is strong and passionate, and her bold style is remarkable. Her vocal range is impressive; she hits each note with precision and technique. Cece Winans performs each song with all her heart.
The album has five original pieces. Alvin Love III wrote these songs with heart and soul. Each one is profound and poetic.
The song “It’s Christmas” is a heartfelt piece full of joy and celebration. The tune is descriptive and relatable, telling the classic story of life during Christmas, such as bright lights and bell ringing. It’s a sentimental song.
The piece Something’s Happening is a heartfelt variation on the story of Jesus’ birth. The song is hopeful.
This World Will Never Be the Same also discusses Jesus’ birth and describes how life will change following this moment.
Giving the Same teaches a positive lesson about kindness and a time of giving to others (giving is better than receiving).
The Grace of Father is a well-written song about the miracle of Jesus’ birth. It is hopeful and optimistic.
These five songs are from the heart, with beautiful poetry.
