My Tribute to Liam Payne & Mental Health

I’m Flora Youssef, the founder of the blog MusiFlo. Usually, I post a minimum of one to two articles a week. However, this past week is different. At first, I wasn’t feeling well, but the recent passing of former One Direction member Liam Payne made it even more difficult to post anything this week. Like many others, his passing at just 31 was a major shock. Having heard about his musical career recently in the news and what I read about him, I noticed that he was impressive when I saw the clip of his performance on The X Factor. He had an incredible voice. He was a talented artist, but he was gone too soon.

My knowledge of Liam Payne’s music as a solo artist and past One Direction member is average. I have enjoyed a couple of songs from One Direction.

In the last few days since Liam Payne’s passing, the topic of mental health resurfaced. The media mentioned his struggles with mental health, which he mentioned in various interviews. It frustrates me how some people and some media quickly judge when someone dies in particular circumstances, as with Liam Payne, with his history of addiction and mental health struggles. The same goes for other celebrities who were found dead in a hotel room or at their home. Please show their loved ones love, compassion and understanding in these trying times. Let’s give them privacy to grieve their loss. Indeed, I’m not an expert in psychology, addiction and mental health struggles. However, I know how complex it is to describe mental health challenges as someone struggling with them myself. It helps to talk about it with friends and family, but it is even more helpful to seek professional help. There’s no shame in that; anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong, even if it’s someone you know.

My condolences to Liam Payne’s family, friends, former One Direction band mates and fans.

Rest in Peace, Liam Payne.

Flora Youssef
