Single Saturdays:  Laura Gagné – Seule

Canadian and Quebecoise singer Laura Gagné released Seule (Alone), a new single. Laura Gagné wrote and composed the song. It tells the story of her struggles regarding her music career and social media.

The fusion of French pop with a fun 90s vibe is reminiscent of French R&B and 2000s Pop music of Francophone music. The vibrant percussion and synthesizers create a bold ambiance that feels like a heart beating fast. Laura Gagné’s remarkable composition is sure to energize the listeners. It also parallels Marie-Mai’s 2009 single C’est Moi with the edgy, semi-fast-paced beat. The music is phenomenal and suitable for expressing various emotions, including anxiety and doubt.

Laura Gagné’s voice, a unique blend of softness and huskiness, is a captivating instrument. She sings with genuine vulnerability, sharing her anxiety and frustrations about success and social media.

The lyrics are deep and vulnerable. The song tells a personal story about fame and social media challenges. Using the island metaphor also covers the loneliness that one can feel. The tune has an incredible blend of poetic structures (AABB and ABBA). The repetition is well-thought-out, especially with the sentence “seule sur mon île” (alone on my island), representing that disconnect from being famous today with trends and likes on Instagram.

The single Seule is available.
