City of Dawn, Sherry Finzer & Karasvana released a new EP, The Journeying Sun. The themes are meditation and relaxation.
The music is New Age. It is immersive and calming – great for meditation. The EP parallels Dan Gibson’s Solitude albums, such as European Spa and Polynesian Spa. There’s a lovely nature vibe that gives a sense of contemplation. Sherry Finzer, Damien Alexander Duque, and Mary Ella Hunt did remarkable work throughout the EP, giving it rich compositions. The musicians, including the piano and flute players, are incredible.
The piece Memory of Awakening starts the EP with a lovely intro to meditation and relaxation. Beautiful wind chimes and the triangle are in the background. It reminds me of a song from the Pocahontas soundtrack, Colours of the Wind, performed by Judy Kuhn.
The tune On Seashores of Endless Worlds also has wind chimes in the background, giving it a spiritual ambiance. The xylophone is a fantastic touch to this piece.
Resonant Wandering has an immersive sound that reminds me of a walk/hike through a garden or a forest. I imagine the beautiful scenery of nature, including flowers. The sound of the triangle instrument feels like a reminder to focus on the present.
The song Indefiniteness reminds me of my Polynesian spa album from Solitude. It inspires me to imagine a beautiful sunset at a beach. The calming music helps to reset focus to the present moment.
The piece Walking Within is a lovely metaphor for self-discovery and getting to know oneself, especially on a spiritual level. The flute in the background is soothing. There are even beautiful, calming moments in hearing the ripples of the water. It feels like swimming in a river or lake, secluded from noise.
The music in this EP is phenomenal. The songs inspire listeners to relax to the soothing rhythms – suitable for meditation and spa activities.
The EP The Journeying Suni is available.
