Day 9: Adam Hawley – What Christmas Means to Me

American Jazz guitarist Adam Hawley released a new Christmas album, What Christmas Means To Me. It has ten covers of Christmas classics, each one with a new spin on holiday classics.

The music is Jazz. The album has impressive compositions, each one having a modern touch. It has a Christmas party vibe, the kind that’s intimate and simple. Also, each song has a bold spin on Christmas classics. Except for three pieces, it’s a change to only hear the music of these well-known Christmas tunes. Although the record has modern sounds, there’s a sense of nostalgia. The musical editions of the Christmas songs follow the original composition but with a Jazzy twist, such as Jingle BellsHave Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and O Come, All Ye Faithful. There’s a remarkable blend of musical styles and rhythms.    Two songs feature well-known musicians God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (feat Julian Vaughn) and Do You Hear What I Hear (feat. Marcus Anderson). God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (feat Julian Vaughn) has a fantastic beat. The bass, played by Julian Vaughn, is remarkable. It gives the song a unique character. The version Do You Hear What I Hear (feat. Marcus Anderson) is phenomenal. Marcus Anderson plays his saxophone beautifully. It’s impressive to hear the nostalgia through a modern beat.    The compositions are remarkable to have a modern take on Christmas classics -it’s creative.

Three artists each perform a classic on Adam Hawley’s Christmas album. The first example is What Christmas Means to Me, in which L. Young performs excerpts of Stevie Wonder’s Christmas single. The second example is Mary Did You Know, performed by Adam Hawley’s wife, Kat Hawley. She did an incredible rendition of an 80s Christmas single. The final example is Celebrate Me Home, performed by Matt Cusson. His voice is soft and soulful. He sings with all his heart.

The album What Christmas Means to Me is available.
