Canadian singer Alanis Morrisette released a Christmas EP entitled Last Christmas. It consists of four covers of remarkable Christmas songs.
The music is Alternative. The EP has a fun 70s vibe, especially with the guitar. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) on the EP has a Folksy take on a holiday classic. That includes the sleigh bells and the choir singing in the background. Alanis Morisette’s rendition of Little Drummer Boy has a well-balanced blend of traditional music with Alternative-style beats and contemporary sounds. The song What Child Is This (feat. Julian Coryell) is a heartfelt piece. In this cover, Julian Coryell playing the guitar creates a feeling of contemplation. It complements Alanis Morissette’s voice. The music is incredible. This rendition of Last Christmas on this EP has an upbeat take on the 80s classic. There are modern sounds with some parts that parallel Wham’s original version (in between verses). Alanis Morissette gave this cover an empowering vibe of a woman finally recovering from heartbreak. It has a fantastic Alternative and Folk beat. The Last Christmas EP has impressive renditions of popular Christmas classics.
Alanis Morissette has a bold and edgy voice. She sings with great passion with the pieces Happy Xmas and Last Christmas. She performs the other two pieces, Little Drummer Boy and What Child Is This, with traditional and modern sounds. Alanis Morissette has a vibrant vocal style throughout this EP. The musical style reminds me of her 90s music.
