Country duo Maddie & Tae have a new Christmas EP entitled We Need Christmas. There are two originals and four covers.
The music is Country & holiday. The guitar (both acoustic and electric) adds a lovely cozy feel to the EP. The song Holly Jolly Christmas has a Country touch and a jazzy swing. The vibe of the record reminds me of an intimate dinner party (in non-COVID circumstances). However, there’s also sadness with the song Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), using slow music and heavy to reflect the heartache of missing a loved one. When hearing O Come All Ye Faithful is a lovely ballad with a poetic feel and a Country music composition. There’s an incredible depth to the music and the arrangements of these songs.
Maddie & Tae’s voices are fantastic and bold, with a beautiful rhythm. The country duo honours the classics nicely with style and grace. Their enthusiasm for the Christmas season is in their singing.
The lyrics of the two original songs are beautiful and personal, making them relatable and genuine. The tune Merry Married Christmas is romantic and sweet. It tells the story of a couple enjoying their first Christmas together, with words from the heart. The song We Need Christmas feels like the most personal one, the importance of family during the holiday season and describing watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special (It reminds me of my childhood). There’s mention of Grandparents reading the book of Luke, which is another personal touch. The positive vibes of being together are deep. Time with family during touch times is very relevant, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic.
