Single Saturdays: Robby Johnson’s Latest Single Au Bout de Nos Doigts (Alone Tonight)

Robby Johnson has released a new bilingual single entitled Au Bout de Nos Doigts (Alone Tonight). A bilingual song is a unique style for the Canadian artist. Robby Johnson & French singer Corneille wrote the lyrics.

The story of the song is about overwhelmed people feel with social media. It can make one forget about what’s important in life. Social media can be a way to connect with others, but not the only way. Seeing how many followers we have or waiting for a post to get likes shouldn’t be the only thing on our minds. It can be addictive and even an obsession, which is my understanding of the song.

The music is a mix of Country and Pop, which makes this song even more interesting. The sound of the guitar blends smoothly in the background. Robby Johnson’s voice is soft and low, which is unique in comparison to his other singles. Majority of the song is in French, with some parts in English. His singing in French & English is impressive. The lyrics are well-written with a smooth flow from French to English.

There are talks of a French album for Robby Johnson. I look forward to it!

Single Saturdays-Silverdrive 35’s Latest Single: Sleepwalking

Silverdrive 35 has released a new single entitled Sleepwalking. The story is about a man dealing with a loss of a loved one. He sees the girl he loved in his dreams and wishes he could stay dreaming because the reality is hard to handle.

The music in Sleepwalking is incredible, especially the banjo in the background. The banjo is a detail that gives the song the Country music feel. The echo of the lyrics creates an effect of heaviness, because of the feeling of sadness. The tone of their voices has variety and depth, which compliments the song very well.

Sleepwalking is a metaphor to demonstrate the struggle and confusion while coming to terms with losing a life partner. It’s the sentiment of living in an alternate reality that is preferable than the real world. The dream is a significant component of the song. It’s where he sees his significant other in a beautiful dream. He doesn’t want to go back to a life without his love. When losing a loved one, reality can seem confusing and impossible, at times. He even thinks he hears the voice of his lover, which can happen when in mourning. The part about getting the phone call from the girl’s father implies that something has happened. There’s that moment when he wishes that it wasn’t real, but a nightmare. It’s heartbreaking. It’s a sentiment that is relatable. One can feel the emotions of sadness and grief, even pain.

This subject matter is different from their other songs that talk about a break-up or going down memory lane, remembering good old simple days. The subject of losing a loved one is new and original.

Keep up the good work!

Single Saturdays: Silverdrive 35’s Latest Single- Drunk On You

Silverdrive 35’s latest single Drunk on You is another fantastic hit for the Swedish group. Their music keeps getting better and better.

Drunk on You is a song that expresses how many of us feel when we find out news about an old flame. It tells the story of a guy who finds a picture of a past love online. He becomes curious she’s been up to since they last saw each other. He then has flashbacks of their time together, which has him wondering if he’d lost a chance at true love. He’s at a bar when he remembers his past love. The man could be drunk, or he’s drunk on the nostalgia.

The musical composition has a fantastic rhythm. Eli Stream’s powerful voice is unforgettable. The music of the guitar is lovely.
The Country music has its presence in this song, just like their previous singles.

I look forward to their first album. Silverdrive 35 has potential as a group. I hope to see someday them winning a Grammy. I wish them luck in their musical career.

Robby Johnson’s Latest Album: Trouble-An Incredible EP!

Canadian Country singer Robby Johnson has released an EP entitled Trouble. It is Country music at its best. It’s album of stories that people will enjoy. The Trouble is a lovely continuation of his album Don’t Look Back.

There are four songs in this album: What Matters Most, Big Time, Hot Legs, and Quiet Night in Austin. These four songs tell exciting stories.

The song What Matters Most is about putting things in perspective and realising what’s important in life. Little frustrations of the day should remain small and not ruin the rest of our day. Seeing loved ones always brings joy to one’s heart and makes us forget all our troubles.

Big Time is a tune that tells the tale of a man who got one night and can’t remember anything. The details are sketchy for the guy
in the story. It might be relatable for some.

Hot Legs tell the story a guy who sees an attractive woman in a bar whose legs he notices. It seems to be a physical attraction. He hopes that a relationship will come of it.

The song “Quiet Night in Austin” is a live performance. It’s about how a night in Austin was quiet until a woman the man in the song finds attractive passes through town. The lady is a woman from out of town, which is my guess. I found it funny and entertaining.

The title “Trouble” is appropriate for this album, because of the stories these songs tell. Robby Johnson captures in his lyrics what some people may not be able to describe when they go or went on these adventures.

My favourite song is What Matters Most.

Shania Twain’s Come On Over-20th Anniversary

November 4, 2017, marks the 20th anniversary of Shania’s Twain’s album Come On Over. A record has a lovely mix of Country and Pop, which includes the hits likeYou’re Still the One, Come On Over, You’ve Got a Way with Me, Man! I feel Like a Woman,  From This Moment, Love Get Me Every Time, and That Don’t Impress Me Much, etc. It’s a classic album from the 1990s. It’s not just romantic, but also empowering (for women). The music is still incredible 20 years later!

Women’s Empower is present in the following songs: Man! I feel Like a Woman, That Don’t Impress Me Much and Whatever You Do, Don’t, and Honey I’m Home. Shania Twain is a fantastic role model for young girls. Standing up for oneself is essential.

I prefer Pop to Country music, but this record is an example of excellent Country music. It makes me want to dance and take it easy.

My favourite songs are You’re Still the One, Come On Over, You’ve Got a Way with Me, Man! I feel Like a Woman, Love Get Me Every Time, and That Don’t Impress Me Much.

Silverdrive 35’s Latest Single “Those Days”

Silverdrive 35 has released another single! Their latest song is entitled Those Days. It’s an incredible song! They have so much potential.

This song is about remembering a time that seemed simpler.  There’s a classic country feel to it especially when it comes to  talking about falling in love and chilling with friends. It’s got a nostalgic feel that is part of the country charm. There’s even a sense of adventure, more specifically I think of going on a road trip I imagine being outdoors by the lake, enjoying the fresh air.

Their voices are amazing! The music has great tempo, as well as amazing composition. It’s catchy and puts a smile on your face.  It’s fun hearing conversation within the song, which was done in a clever way. There’s simplicity to the song, which works very well with the theme of simpler times.

Bravo to Silverdrive 35! Keep up the work guys!

Can’t wait to hear your album. 🙂

2016 Albums Left for Review

Here are the albums that I haven’t reviewed from 2016.

  • Robby Johnson Don’t Look Back (first edition)
  • Marie-Eve Janvier & Jean-François Breau Route Infinie
  • Barbra Streisand Encore
  • Bobby Bazini Summer is Gone
  • Jean-Pierre Ferland Chansons Jalouses

These are albums that I missed to comment on when they were released at different times  throughout the year.  I will briefly comment on each one to end this year a good note.

Robby Johnson Don’t Look Back (first edition)

Country: Canada
Musical genre(s): Country
Experience: 2016-present

I admit I don’t listen to a lot of Country music. However, Robby Johnson’s Don’t Look Back album is amazing! The songs are so romantic and entertaining.  It’s distinct from other Country music albums.

I thought Robby Johnson was American when I heard him, but it turns out he’s Canadian! More specifically he’s from my home province of Quebec. That is so cool!

My favourite songs from this album are: Shady, Hate Me Tonight, Together, Anything but Ordinary, There You Are

Marie-Eve Janvier & Jean-François Breau Route Infinie

Country: Canada
Musical genre(s): Pop
Experience: 2009-present

Marie-Ève Janvier and Jean-François Breau have released a new album this fall entitled La Route Infinie. Their music is always a pleasure to listen to. This album in particular has a road-trip feel to it. It makes me look forward to Summer again.

C’est une fille is a sentimental song in honour of the birth of their daughter Lea. It’s a mother and father expressing the joy of welcoming a baby into the world. Although I have no children of my own, I imagine what it would feel like to be a mother.

My favourite songs from this album are: Pour Moi, C’est Toi; C’est une fille; Route Infinie, Le temps manque, la maison où je veux vivre, Avec Toi, J’entend l’bonheur qui cogne

Barbra Streisand Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway

Country: USA
Musical genre(s): Broadway jazz traditional pop disco
Experience: 1963-present

Barbra Streisand’s voice in this album Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway is incredible as always. In this album she sings duets with various singers and actors such as Anne Hathaway, Chris Pine, and Alec Baldwin. Each song tells a story or stories in some cases. She remains to be one of the best singers/actresses of our time.

These are songs she sang in her many of her musical films. I love the homage to the past, while adding a contemporary component to it. Love it!

My favourite songs from this album are At the Ballet (featuring Emily Blunt & Anne Hathaway), I’ll Be Seeing You”/”I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face (featuring Chris Pine), Anything You Can Do (featuring Melissa McCarthy), and Pure Imagination (featuring Seth MacFarlane)

First Single Fridays: Silverdrive 35 “Bleeding Heart”

Country: Sweden
Musical genre(s): Country
Years of experience: 2016-present
Members: Eli Stream
                Carl Fredrik

Silverdrive 35 is an emerging group from Sweden who released their first single last May entitled
Bleeding Heart. If I didn’t know they were Swedish, I would have thought they were American, because Country music is known there. Kudos for Silverdrive 35 to experiment with Country music.

The song talks about heartbreak in the midst of a musical career. There’s an interactive feel to it when they say that the listener can sing along. However, despite the heartbreak, there’s also a sense of hope, a silver lining in  moving on with his life by focusing on his career.

The music is with a country feel, with a European twist. The beat is complementary to the lyrics being sung.  I love the lyrics because of the simplicity in them.  It’s so exciting to hear Country coming from Europe. It definitely makes an interesting addition to the Country music.  Country music is no longer limited to the U.S and Canada.

Looking forward to hearing more of their music. Wish them success in their musical career. 🙂
