Single Saturdays:  Samara Joy – Why I’m Here

American artist Samara Joy released a new single, Why I’m Here. The story is about standing up for what’s right and defending principles. Samara Joy and Paul Sylvester Morton Jr. wrote and composed the song.

The music is Jazz. The song has a beautiful choir vibe, creating uplifting music. It parallels Go The Distance (from the 1997 movie Hercules), creating a sense of determination. The rhythm is smooth while occasionally picking up in tempo. It starts slowly with drums (played by

Reginald Nicholas Jr.) and then gradually increases to a semi-fast tempo. The composition combines the music of so many instruments.

The band of musicians on this song is fantastic. Mike Esneault did incredible work as the string arranger, strings conductor, and conductor. PJ Morton played the piano and organ beautifully. The violinists (Milena Rusanova, Gabrielle Fischler, Benjamin Thacher, Elizabeth Overweg, Kurt Munstedt and Janeta Mavrova) are phenomenal. The cello players Rachel Hsieh and Kyle Anderson create a symphony-like vibe. Jane Gabka plays the Oboe remarkably. The viola players (Richard Woehrle, Catherine Matushek and Sixto Franco) add another dynamic layer to the song. The bass players Doug Therrien, DJ Raymond, and the horn musician Mollie Pate impressively contribute to the song’s uplifting vibe.

The various engineers of this track did an excellent job with the song: Reginald Nicholas Jr. (the mixing and recording engineer) and Colin Leonard (mastering engineer).

The music is upbeat, giving hope and optimism that everything will be okay.

Samara Joy’s voice is deep and soulful. She has a bold and rich vocal style. She sings this song with passion and from the heart. Samara Joy sounds confident, determined and optimistic when she performs this incredible piece.

The additional vocalists (Ashley Williams, Tiondria Norris, Amanda Ford, Ashton Francis, Dominic Davis, Natalie Cris and Jarell Bankston) create a communal atmosphere.

Samara Joy and the additional vocalists did an excellent job capturing the positive emotions.

The lyrics are inspirational and hopeful. The song represents a sense of

perseverance and determination. The words are poetic. Using freestyle poetry creates a smooth, natural flow. There’s a beautiful peace of mind in the song’s chorus and the post-chorus.

The Chorus
Bending, but never broken
Knocked down, but I keep going
I’ve decided to stand my ground
I will not be moved

The chorus represents a sense of hope and determination despite any adversity one may face.

Post-Chorus
And I have no fear
I know why I’m here

The post-chorus shows confidence after figuring out one’s purpose in life. It compliments the movie’s story about Shirley Chisholm, the first Black congresswoman.

The simplicity in the lyrics is a suitable approach to share the song’s essential message about never giving up and standing up for one’s beliefs and principles, no matter how hard it can be.

The song ends on a heartfelt note with another post-chorus with the following lines:

Post-Chorus (at the end)
And I have no fear,
So don’t you shed one tear
‘Cause I know why I’m here

The words also feel like a mantra in everyday life. The lyrics are well-written, with heart and soul.
