Day 11: Single Saturdays – Bon Jovi – Christmas Isn’t Christmas

American Rock band Bon Jovi released a new single, Christmas Isn’t Christmas. It’s about how Christmas can be challenging for some people, especially when missing loved ones (because of distance or the first Christmas after their passing, etc.).

The music is Rock. The song has an 80s vibe that parallels Bon Jovi’s hit songs, such as the classic Bed of Roses. It’s a beautiful, heartfelt ballad. This song’s guitar and drums are incredible, making this a fantastic composition. It starts with the guitar and then smoothly blends with the drums. John Shanks and Jon Bon Jovi remarkably produced this single, capturing the mixed emotions one feels during this time of year through the wavy rhythm that reflects them perfectly.

Jon Bon Jovi’s is edgy and husky. He sings with a genuine vulnerability- in a very expressive manner. He captures the emotions some people struggle with during the holiday season.

The lyrics are descriptive – full of sadness. The vibe reminds me of Elvis Presley’s Blue Christmas. It could be about waiting for a significant other to come. Jon Bon Jovi, Pee Wee King and Redd Stewart wrote the lyrics in a heartfelt and vulnerable manner. They capture how challenging this time of year can be for some people. The words are poetic and rich in emotions, especially nostalgia.

The single Christmas Isn’t Christmas is available.
