Irish singer Darren Flynn has released his first EP, The Pinebox. The themes are contemplation, life and love.

The music is Country. Each song’s composition perfectly reflects its story and vibe.

The EP opens with an incredible rendition of U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. It has a Country twist, 80s flair, and contemporary beats. The banjo and harmonica are a nice touch. It honours the original composition and creates a nostalgic feel.
Where The Blue Turns To Black is a phenomenal bittersweet ballad with sombre moments. It features lovely background guitar and energetic harmonica music. The rhythm is smooth, with occasional tempo changes.
I Ain’t Gonna Worry About It features old-fashioned Country music that parallels two Dolly Parton songs: 9 to 5 and Islands in the Stream (a duet with Kenny Rogers). The song also has upbeat energy. The tempo changes are fantastic, shifting from slow to fast and back with great precision.
Pinebox has a catchy beat that builds suspense. The sound blends intense moments with occasional energetic rhythmic sections. The ending is unique and dynamic. The fast-paced guitar complements the song’s suspenseful vibe. It parallels Smashing Pumpkins and The Tragically Hip in its edgy beat.
Cassandra’s Song is an incredible ballad with a great composition. It smoothly goes from a semi-fast guitar sound to a faster beat.  Despite the sadness, the music also carries a sense of hope with a more upbeat sound. It’s a remarkable tune with a lovely musical duality.

The music is phenomenal on this EP, with intricate compositions and perfectly timed sections (ranging from slow to fast, for example).

Darren Flynn’s voice is soulful. He sings each song with precise tone and rhythm. He delivers an impressive rendition of U2’s 1980s single I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.

The lyrics of the four original songs are profound and poetic.
Where The Blue Turns To Black is a deep metaphor about soul search (some may say Inner shadow). It’s sombre yet contemplative. It ends with a great fade-out.
I Ain’t Gonna Worry About It is an inspirational and hopeful song. It’s about having faith that everything will work out for the best. It reminds us to focus on our priorities and to trust the timing of everything.
Pinebox is a sad metaphor for the challenging times during and after military service. It’s reflective and complex, describing the struggles soldiers and their families face after serving. It’s a thought-provoking piece.
Cassandra’s Song is a powerful warning about the dangerous times we live in, but it also teaches the importance of respecting one another. It also reminds us to live life to the fullest. It ends the EP on a philosophical note.
Each original song’s lyrics are intricate and reflective, making important points about respect and love.
