British singer Olivia Dean released a second album, The Art of Loving. The themes are love and heartbreak.  Congratulations, Olivia Dean, for winning a Grammy in the New Artist category.

The music is Pop/Brit Pop.  The songs are incredible, with a sound that blends 90s music and contemporary Pop.

The Art of Loving (Intro) is a lovely way to start the album, and it sets the tone nicely. It’s short and sweet.

The album features impressive upbeat tracks. The song Nice To Each Other has a bold sound. It reminds me of Fleetwood Mac’s single Dreams but with a contemporary beat. The wavy rhythm adds a nice touch, giving the tune a catchy sound. Lady Lady has a 90s vibe that reminds me of Monica and Brandy’s music. It also has a Jazz vibe. So Easy (To Fall In Love) has a bold jazz sound that complements its upbeat music. The rhythm is smooth, which suits the song’s easygoing vibe. The song Man I Need has an upbeat, cheerful sound with bold energy. It reminds me of Michael Jackson’s music, especially the 80s. Baby Steps has an incredible composition and a phenomenal rhythm. During the verses, it’s incredible how it goes from slow to semi-fast (sad to peace of mind) – fantastic, gradient music.

The ballads on this record are beautifully composed. The song “Close Up” features an intense beat that conveys the difficulties some relationships face. The piano is a perfect choice in how it’s being played, creating suspense. It then shifts to guitar for the chorus, representing the feeling of moving. The composition is impressive in creating different vibes. Let Alone The One You Love is slow and intense with a heavy beat, representing heartbreak. The rhythm is a rollercoaster that conveys heartbreak and the exhaustion of fighting for the relationship. The song’s musical structure is phenomenal, especially its tempo changes.Something Inbetween offers a balanced mix of slow and fast, making it a suitable choice to represent the ups and downs of relationships and personal growth. Loud has a lovely guitar sound that reminds me of Spanish music. It parallels Jennifer Lopez’s If You Had My Love and Adele’s Skyfall. The musical simplicity is a suitable choice for a song like this one because it allows listeners to focus on the lyrics. The rhythm is consistent because of the woman’s growing confidence as she finally moves on. The tune A Couple Minutes features a remarkable composition, transitioning from an intense beat to a relaxing one. It reminds me of the single Untitled (How Does It Feel) by the late D’Angelo. It ends with a smooth ukulele-style fade-out. I’ve Seen It features fantastic slow music. It parallels Just the Two of Us (by Bill Withers and Grover Washington, Jr.), Human and Arms (the last two are Christina Perri songs). The composition has a smooth rhythm.

The music throughout the album is impressive, blending musical styles (old-fashioned and contemporary). The compositions are beautifully intricate.

Olivia Dean’s voice is soulful and soft. It’s impressive to hear her sing; it sounds like she’s been a singer for 30 years. It’s incredible to hear such a remarkable voice, and she’s an emerging artist. I wish her a successful career.

The lyrics are incredibly rich in poetic writing and linguistic depth.  Each song is well-written with heart and soul.

The Art of Loving (Intro) is a poetic introduction to the album that beautifully sets the tone. It’s simple, yet says so much.

The album features several romantic songs full of love and hope. Nice To Each Other is an inspirational song about love, kindness and adventure. It also represents the endless possibilities of living one’s life, especially when one has the courage to try. So Easy (To Fall In Love) is a song that embodies the hope of finding true love, with a sweet, daydreaming vibe. Man I Need is another song that inspires hope of finding true love, where everything feels aligned and perfect. It’s relatable and from the heart.

Lady Lady is a beautiful metaphor that represents confidence and women’s independence through unique lyrics. It’s inspiringly empowering. There’s a beautiful poetic depth.

The record covers songs about heartbreak in both difficult times and during better days. Close Up is a profound song representing uncertainty and heartbreak. The tune is about the struggles in relationships and the possibility that it won’t work out. Let Alone The One You Love is the shock of betrayal caused by a partner, as well as the disappointment that comes with it. This subject is relatable, and many can relate to that unpleasant feeling. Something Inbetween is a complex about that awkward time where sometimes one doesn’t know where one stands in a relationship. It also discusses how hard change is. Loud discusses in detail the pain and confusion caused by a partner’s possible “ghosting.” The grief is quite relatable. The song Baby Steps is that, despite how long it may take to move on, there’s still hope that everything will be okay. It’s an inspirational piece. The song A Couple Minutes discusses the sadness stage of grief that often follows a breakup. It also covers the moment of acceptance and moving on for good.

I’ve Seen It represents that feeling of contemplation about life and relationships. It sounds like a song and a stream of consciousness at the same time. It’s poetically smooth and well-written.

The album features songs with heartfelt lyrics full of emotion and meaning.

Congratulations again to  Olivia Dean for winning a Grammy in the New Artist category.
