Wicked For Good: Music & Movie

Advertisements

Recently, I went to see the movie Wicked For Good with a friend. It was an excellent movie. I was excited, and it was worth the wait. The musical numbers and visual effects were impressive, adding depth to the film.

The movie followed the script of the second act accurately.  It was so much fun to hear the songs from the soundtrack. It started with the piece Everyday More Wicked. It was visually bold, with an intense vibe.

The visual effects throughout the movie were amazing. Their magic added a creative layer. It beautifully honoured the musical while adding its own creative touch. I absolutely enjoyed it just as much as the first one.  I hope you enjoy the movie as much as I did.

The Movie’s Musical  Moments

The cast performed these songs remarkably.   The choreography throughout the movie was fantastic, as were the visual effects.  It was just as incredible as watching the musical in New York.  The movie started with Everyday More Wicked. It was an impressive opening to the film, especially hearing the Wicked Movie Cast, then hearing Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Erivo, and, later, Ariana Grande perform an excerpt of Popular. It’s an incredible sequence.

The Thank Goodness/I Couldn’t Be Happier sequence felt intimate. The transition to the rest of the cast performing was well done. It smoothly followed the Everyday More Wicked intro.

A scene that differed from the Off-Broadway musical was Cynthia Erivo’s performance of the new song No Place Like Home. It was a decisive moment that added incredible depth to Elphaba’s character. It also represented the time of contemplation of what’s important in life.

The Wicked Witch of the East was impressive with the visual effects during this musical number, such as Nessa floating in the air. These little details add something to this marvellous musical.

In the Wonderful performance sequence, there was a fantastic, elaborate montage. There were those little details that gave performing this song a certain ”oomph” and created a unique effect. I especially enjoyed the reference to Defying Gravity. My favourite scene was when Elphaba, Glinda, and the Wizard were spinning together.

As Long As You’re Mine (Cynthia Erivo & Jonathan Bailey) had fantastic camera movement in this profound duet. It was another sequence that felt intimate and heartfelt. The on-screen chemistry between Cynthia Erivo & Jonathan Bailey is remarkable.

The No Good Deed sequence was bold and impactful. Seeing Elphaba float as she cast a spell to save Fiyero was exciting to watch, creating suspense. The flashbacks in this sequence added another unique layer. The tornado-like effect surrounding Elphaba, as she casts the spell, was phenomenal.

The Girl in the Bubble (Ariana Grande) is a profound moment that demonstrates Glinda’s personal growth as she realises what’s happening and finds her purpose. She has this crucial wake-up call that puts things in perspective. It’s a profound moment of genuine vulnerability. It was another musical number that differed from the original.

The movie ended with a heartfelt sequence featuring the song For Good (Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande). It was the most sincere sequence of the film, representing Elphaba and Glinda’s profound, yet complex friendship.  Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were an incredible duo, not just in performing this song. They had this incredible musical chemistry. The split-screen ending gave the movie a lovely, heartfelt touch of a profound, unlikely friendship.

I was so glad I went to see this movie along with a friend of mine who enjoys the story of Wicked as I do. The movie was incredible. It was a well-done finale. The director, writers, and producers had a bold idea to make this a two-part affair. I recommend watching both Wicked and Wicked for Good.
