November 26, 2024, marks the 40th anniversary of Queen’s Christmas single, Thank God It’s Christmas. I remember paying homage to this song in 2020 during the pandemic as a Throwback Thursday piece. It was a pleasure now to cover this heartfelt Queen song, honouring its 40th anniversary. I hear this song during the holiday season.

It’s a sentimental song. I remember discovering it five years ago around this time, which made quite an impression. It was a lovely surprise to learn that Queen made a Christmas song. Brian May’s guitar solo is incredible. Roger Taylor’s drum solo is impressive. He also plays the Sleigh Bells throughout the song, creating a perfect holiday ambiance. The synthesizer by Brian May and Roger Taylor is fantastic. John Deacon’s bass playing also complements the Christmas vibe. Reinhold Mack and Queen beautifully produced this lovely Christmas single. Queen did an excellent job capturing that holiday cheer. It brings me joy to hear this Christmas single.

Freddie Mercury sings with heart and soul, and his legendary vocal range shines through in this song. He gives it his all when he performs this holiday song. It’s lovely how Freddie Mercury starts with a low, soft voice, then gradually increases, hitting those famous high notes for which he was known. I love Freddie Mercury’s enthusiasm and passion for performing this heartwarming tune.

Roger Taylor, Brian May, and Freddie Mercury did remarkable work with the background vocals. It feels festive, creating that holiday cheer.

The lyrics are simplistic but say so much. The song is about celebrating Christmas with a significant other and loved ones. It creates a sense of hope that things will be okay. Brian May and Roger Taylor did an excellent writing this song for the holiday season, capturing the Christmas essence. Simplicity is a suitable choice in this context. The lyrics are easy to follow and poetically well-written. I love the positivity behind this song, talking about how the past year was challenging, but the upcoming holiday season can be comforting and full of love.

Hearing this song throughout the holiday season will be a great joy.

Happy 40th anniversary to Queen’s single Thank God It’s Christmas!
