Flashback Fridays: Wicked One Wonderful Night

Advertisements

Three weeks ago, on NBC, there was a concert special celebrating the movies Wicked and Wicked for Good.

There were incredible performances. Watching cast members perform the famous songs from Wicked – Part One. It starts with the opening song No One Mourns The Wicked, performed by Ariane Grande. The theatrical details were impressive.

Seeing Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo perform together a few times at this lovely event was just as incredible as watching them in the movie. The most heartfelt performance was when they sang For Good alongside the original Elphaba (Idina Menzel) and Glinda (Kristin Chenoweth). It was a lovely homage to the original stars of Wicked and to the recent cast.

I have quite a few favourite moments, including Ariana Grande performing ‘Popular‘ with a little boy named Remington, a big fan of Wicked. It was a heartwarming moment. When I saw that clip, the kid was so sweet. Another fave performance was Bowen Yang, Ethan Slater, and Marissa Boder performing Dancing Through Life because Jonathan Bailey couldn’t be at the concert. It was funny when all three actors. They sang from the heart.

The most incredible moment was Cynthia Erivo’s solo performance of the popular Defying Gravity. She sang it with great passion. It was epic and theatrical!

A touching detail was when the cast members performed some of the songs for the second part, Wicked for Good, such as Thank Goodness and For Good.

I also enjoyed the moments when the cast of Wicked discussed their time making the movie and watching the montage of fans excited about Wicked. I absolutely enjoyed those fun little clips.

The performance of Get Happy by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, which is not from either soundtrack, perfectly complemented the occasion. It was a heartwarming way to end the special Wicked One Wonderful Night.

The concert special Wicked One Wonderful Night, honouring the Wicked franchise, was a nice build-up to the finale. I look forward to watching the movie. I will keep you posted about when I go see the film.
